This report by Antonio De Lauri (NCHS Director and Research Professor at the Chr. Michelsen Institute, CMI) and Salla Turunen (former Doctoral Researcher at CMI) provides an overview of humanitarian diplomacy, including the different forms it may take in humanitarian intervention.
While the identification of exactly what is considered humanitarian diplomacy is somewhat contested, De Lauri and Turunen highlight that “humanitarians have long engaged in practices of diplomacy but often without adopting an open, public approach or even without proper understanding of how they are doing diplomatic work.”
This report forms part of the project on “Humanitarian Diplomacy: Assessing Policies, Practices and Impact of New Forms of Humanitarian Action and Foreign Policy”, funded by the Research Council of Norway and led by De Lauri.
