Joakim Hertzberg Ulstein

Joakim Hertzberg Ulstein is an international relations scholar whose primary research interests include humanitarian coordination, voluntary standards and regulations and the transnational governance of the humanitarian field. He has a background from refugee and IDP questions, and has formerly worked for the Norwegian Refugee Council.

Ulstein is currently working on a Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Oslo, Faculty of Social Sciences, at the Institute of Political Science. The title of his doctoral dissertation is: “Urban humanitarianism: A comparative study of humanitarian organisations operating in urban settings”. His doctoral dissertation on humanitarianism in urban violence settings is a comparative case study of humanitarian engagement in Rio, Port-au-Prince, and Nairobi.
